Evanescent Bliss Artist: Jennifer Peterson That moment you hold on to and do not want to let go, that is evanescent bliss. It’s a delicate, transient experience that leaves behind a powerful feeling of joy and contentment in your heart. It’s a brief and fleeting moment of serenity that you can feel slip away, even as you try to hold on. It is a gentle reminder that when you seek out beauty, you may be rewarded beyond your expectations. Tunnel View is one of the most iconic spots in Yosemite National Park. It could be one of the most photographed views in any of the United States National Park System. Ansel Adams’ black and white image from 1934 in this spot is an inspiration to many photographers worldwide. To think that I could get a unique photograph from this location is not the reason why I decided to set up my camera that evening in June 2023. It was because of the possibility of witnessing a moment of beauty. As the sky slowly changed from a slight golden tone to a full-blown pink spectacle, I knew I had made the correct decision. When, at the peak of color, the rainbow appeared, I knew evanescent bliss. I had nearly decided to head home this day. It had been cloudy and gray all afternoon. I am so thankful I stayed and positioned myself in this spot to witness one of the most spectacular sunsets I have ever seen. This moment will live on forever in my memory.
