The theme of this artwork of art is the memory and imagination of ancient dark nights. 「Emaki」in the title is an illustrated horizontal narration system of painted handscrolls in Japan and 「Reiwa」 is the current era of Japan's official calendar. This artwork automatically opens and closes with animation. ”Hyakki” means many monster and Yokai (supernatural and surreal creatures), Ghosts and other supernatural creatures . Immediately after the open emaki, the painting shows the daytime, but it is gradually enveloped in darkness. In an era without lights like today, the night was a treasure trove of imagination and creativity. As the conveniences of civilization brightened the night, people eventually forgot their fear of the night, and the darkness and the imagination of the night began to decline. This artwork expresses the moment when the shadows of "Hyakki (One Hundred Demons)", forgotten products of human imagination, appear in the light that makes us forget the night.
