Spiritual Eternal sees Misha humorously deconstruct the history of art by borrowing elements from famous artworks created by prominent historical male artists.
In this body of work created during early days of pandemic in 2020/2001, Misha worked with computer graphics technology ZBrush and Blender to create new spiritual and perceptual dimensions.
These works speak of beauty and the female power of rejuvenation, Mother Nature being the main source of inspiration. Yet they carry a warning about its vulnerability in a world where capital gain prevails over the need to nurture, grow and renew, questioning our relationship to nature and what it’s becoming.
Misha's fascination with nature originated in her early childhood. Growing up, she spent time in the meadows and greenhouses of her family’s farm in hart of Sumadija, Serbia.
She remembers being immersed in a world replete with plants and flowers that would frequently come alive and speak to her.
She is also acutely aware of the long history of female deities who have played an important role across the ages as advocates for life, death and rebirth.
The artist’s eternal fascination with nature and female empowerment is an essential aspect of her prolific career.
Misha also reflects contemporary anxieties around human interaction - ungovernable lust, the instantaneity of culture, digital addictions and the surreal detritus of our self-deception through consumerism.
In this early digital series Misha was experimenting and creating works she refers to: Synthetic Neo-Pop, her brush strokes where painted directly on to the screen in multilayered process filled with disruptive depictions of humanity yet they carry optimism and joy.
Misha’s work incorporates a wealth of elements from popular and low brow culture – art history, literature, music, digital art, cartoon iconography, animation, vinyl toys and contemporary art.
In this body of work Misha looks at Yayoi Kusama’s depictions of the natural world and delves into non-obvious concepts of the cosmos, space, and the self.
Spiritual Eternal pays homage to an album by Alice Coltrane, the great dame of jazz and Misha’s artistic muse.
