It took the machine four years to say her street name right. A Bronx kitchen, a window fan, a grandmother answering a speaker aloud.

THE MARKS
On October 6 THE CENSUS RELEASE was cut from 6,666 to 1,111. Five thousand five hundred and fifty five painted New Yorkers were seen, painted, numbered and then left off the count. THE MARKS are 150 of them.
A census taker counts in tally marks: four strokes and a slash. These New Yorkers carry the mark instead of the number.
This is Mark 092 of 150. The mint order was shuffled once before the drop and published, so nobody, the artist included, picked who got which. Every Mark is revealed the moment it is minted.
