First Home In State College, Pennsylvania
One day, my mother informed me, and my three sisters that we're moving to State College. Our first ever home. For being a single parent with a PhD, and four children. It was hard to get one. I clearly remembered the drive going there. There were so many mountains as we drove down the highways. As a kid, in the back of a Volkswagen looking at these epic views. It sure beat Silver Spring, Maryland views any day. Well at least for me. Since that's all I knew. My mother purchased a one story flat ranch, which had trees as tall as the Gods. There was an abandoned parking lot behind that, which later, that year I begin to learn how to skateboard back there. The inner Cowboy in me grew from there. We lived not to far from a beautiful park, and to be frank..... My mother knew that we were the only black family living in town. Well, except for the sports players attending Penn State University, and some of the students. No one around looked like us. Growing up, I didn't look at color when I met people. We just treated everyone with respect. I used to hike some of the trails, and this picture was created from my inner spirit. A Cowboy in training per say. I can set with that. We only lived one year there. If anyone knows about Universities teaching criteria when visiting. You can teach where you want basically. Kind of like a free agent in the NBA. Play where people will hire you concept. In the end, the only thing I knew was Adam's Ale. You can call it water. No whiskey for this boy, not yet at least. Follow the herd. Mother's know best.
