DIKIMATARA SURUI

This piece pays tribute to a great chief and elder of the Paiter Surui tribe, Dikimatara Surui (12/05/1963 - 20/05/2021), who witnessed and mediated some of the first contacts within the Paiter and brazilian colonizers, later participating and leading political disputes to protect their land and people. Dikimatara lived in the heart of the Amazon forest, at the indigenous land Sete de Setembro on Cacoal - RO, he belonged to the Kablan clan and through a loving marriage bridged two historically rival tribes - Paiter Surui & Cinta Larga. Their son Elias is now leading the Oyxabaten project, using blockchain technology to continue the fight for the forest and it's habitants. NFTs provide means to their financial independence but also serve as a decentralized documentation of their culture and I am honoured to contribute with this artwork.
