The allure of reaching the summit runs deep in our veins. When asked why he wanted to climb Mount Everest, George Mallory simply responded, "because it’s there." It is a calling we simply can not resist.
The mountains can help us to overcome difficulty and to pace ourselves along the way. They teach us to enjoy the journey. We often get so caught up in wanting to reach the top that we forget to enjoy the beauty of the process and the hardships. Many challenges will arise along the way, but to get to the peak, we must persevere and overcome them.
When you finally reach that pinnacle, it feels as if you are on top of the world. Gazing out at the earth beneath you, nothing else matters. You feel vulnerable and small, taking time to reflect on all the hard work it took to get to this point. No matter how many times I reach a new peak, I still get that breathtaking feeling.
Whatever your metaphorical summit in life may be, it’s just the same. You look back and realize that all of the struggles, stress, and work paid off. You’ve finally reached the peak of your own personal mountain, and there’s no better feeling.
