Inspired by the medieval tradition of "Danse Macabre" and Henri Matisse’s "Dance" (1910), 'Dance of Death' explores the relationship between life and death through movement, rhythm, and the passage of time.
In the tradition of "Danse Macabre", Death leads people from all walks of life, from rulers and clergy to ordinary people, towards the grave. It serves as a reminder that death makes no distinction between social class or status. Regardless of who we are or where we stand, we all share the same fate.
Drawing from Matisse’s expressive figures and rhythmic composition, the work brings the symbolism of death into a visual dialogue with the rhythm of existence, using bodily gestures and movement to explore this relationship through a darker lens.
This work was created using digital mixed media, combining digital collage and digital painting, the artwork exists in two visual states (day and night). It transitions according to the viewer’s local time, from night to day at 6 AM and from day to night at 6 PM. You can also use your mouse’s scroll wheel to zoom in and explore the details of the artwork. Double-click to return to the full view.
This is my first experiment with Dynamic Art, exploring how this format could bring another dimension to my artistic practice and deepen the relationship between the artwork, time, and the viewer.
