The Imaginarium - Book 1, Chapter 1

Chapter 1 explores a nephological city above the clouds. Sometimes fractured, sometimes bulbous, other times sculptured, nuanced, and angular, as if at some point an architect was hired to better design the city. I wanted the fragmented nature of the drawing to represent how an idea begins to form, leading to more detailed thoughts as time goes on. Notes from Chris on the music: I decided to write a three-minute piece that could be divided into six 30-second sections (each capable of looping). The piece is structured in arch form (ABCCBA) but with significant variations in the repeated sections. The musical building blocks are all taken from the original soundtrack for the 1 of 1 release. I tried to stay true to the things I felt were successful whilst introducing enough new elements to keep it interesting and original. Key amongst the new material is the ‘Imaginarium Theme’ that is heard in its entirety in chapter 1 and then transformed and fragmented throughout the other chapters culminating in a near-exact repetition in chapter 6, but with subtle changes to aid musical resolution.
