An extremely rare surprise from a gentle giant. Its been a very different year to the last three here in Western Australia, where as in a strong elnino pattern we would be well into dry hot weather with no rain, through out spring and the whale season It was hard to find the right days and conditions. This morning was almost windless so I decided to fly the drone from straight out from my front door to survey the conditions before the expected wind change.
To my suprise a gentle commotion in the corner of my screen turned out to be a Pygmy Blue Whale, cruising past within the confines of the bay, My moment with this beautiful creature was extremely brief, no more than a minute, before it disappeared to the depths as it exited the bay. The windless conditions provide an interesting texture to the whale gliding gracefuly just below the surface of the Indian Ocean
