Wave Rock

Located far in the middle of what feels like nowhere, Wave Rock in Kulin, Western Australia is one of the most iconic landmarks of Australia and a very significant cultural site in the history of this land and its indigenous inhabitants. This was a place my father had lived in his early days as a teacher, one year before I arrived on this earth. Carved by ancient geological forces the different patterns of staining are different algae that have established themselves after periods of rain. Standing 50 feet (15 metres) high and 360 feet (110 metres) long it is an awe inspiring experience to stand before this rock, one that rewards the visitor for the effort required to reach it. This morning we were lucky enough to experience a sunrise on our own, the hours spent as the sun rose and finally peaked its head over the ridge of the wave was a very special experience and to walk in the footsteps of my father a special one personally.
