In 1543 Copernius put forward an early heliocentric model of the solar system. 70 years later, Galileo would note that moons orbited Jupiter and thus not everything revolved around Earth. But it was only in the mid 19th century that the heliocentric model was scientifically proved without a doubt by Friedrich Bessel and his observation of the Stellar Parallax.
