Over the city (Last of the series)------------------------------------
The inspiration behind the image.---------------------------------
Maybe after knowing some of this you’ll have more context to why I created this image. I had a motorcycle accident at 18 which resulted in a spinal cord injury, broken clavicle, broken ribs,
and internal bleeding. I had a spinal fusion and was told that they weren’t sure if I was going to live but that I definitely would never walk again . I thought that was the end of my life But it wasn’t.
So the doctor said I would never walk again but I tried everything I could do to prove him wrong. Afterall , I was a sports fanatic and I knew I could will myself to walk. Turns out I couldn't .
It's not about willing yourself to walk, but rather I learned to accept my circumstances and embrace it. Alot of people, myself included, told me not to quit but to power through. But as the years of therapy rolled by, I realized that by falsely believing that we're supposed to "walk" I was actually quitting on life. I was losing years of my life to pursue a dream of walking and being the person I was , instead of the person who I had become. And I started living finally. Since then , I've raced cars semi professionally, embarked in a film art career , and played for the US national team in table tennis.
It's amazing what you can do when you quit having the "idea" of what you "should" do, and just live and accept your circumstances and thrive.
