Venus Goes Swimming
This living photograph recreates Boticelli's 1485 masterpiece "The Birth of Venus" and gives it a modern day treatment in glamorous style. Taking on the Renaissance is no small task. The paintings from this era were often busy and larger than life. Translating something like this into a photograph can be daunting so refinement was necessary. The Medici family is said to have owned the original painting for hundreds of years so the quality and location for this photograph needed to live up to something they would hang in one of their villas. I believe that medium format film and the Malibu coast does the goddess of beauty, desire, and love justice.
