Developing the persona of the artist, writer, composer, musician, Giacomo S Ruscelli, as a means to develop a series of artworks concerning pertinent moments in early modernism. ‘The archive of Giacomo S Ruscelli’ is an ongoing collection of specific artistic interventions and musical compositions by this fictitious Italian Swiss artist originating from Lugano, Ticino.
Taking the Dada movements call to arms concerning the need for societal disruption through nonsense, chance and provocations. The piece ‘Dada Poetry from a Manifesto/ composition for a Jazz Septet’ utilising random chance words from Tristan Tzara’s potent 1918 Dada manifesto on the frustrations and limitations of 20th century western society.
The instrumental piece is composed responding to the musicality within the found words from the 1918 manifesto. The composition has been written for a Jazz Septet comprising of: Drum set, Double Bass, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Clarinet and Tuba.
