Art in the Age of Digital Puritanism

As a female nude artist, I have experienced censorship and unfair deletion on multiple web2 platforms. The most common explanation given for removing my self-portraits is ‘sexual solicitation’. I find it too close to the dangerous reasoning that showing one’s body must surely mean asking for sexual attention. In a digital world filled with crass and sexist portrayals of women, I wish to celebrate my body as a powerful storytelling tool. Photography has been instrumental in my journey of overcoming psychological trauma and embracing my physical skin disease. While some experiences are difficult to talk about, dealing with them through symbolic photography can be incredibly healing. Let art be art. (Digital photography, Self-portrait, 2022)
