I noticed him there. His bright red bowtie,
an attraction against his starched shirt.
I stopped, I was meant to just pass by
on my way to an ice cream cone dessert.
His speckled hair and glasses, I wondered,
how many years? How many second dates?
How many meals served? Surely unnumbered.
How many business meetings? Or debates?
In my youth, with my friends yelling my name,
lost in fantasy. When he was my age
how much was different, how much the same?
My years, his life, written on the same page.
He looked up. He saw me. I need to go
back, reminded of all there is to know.
