We are all a combination of past generations- their joys, hardships, quirks, and passions. How do we conceptualize this connection and embrace our family histories? I combine images of people to try and understand the duality of identity- whether it be familial, chosen, or circumstantial. I combine portraits using both traditional and digital photography techniques. This photograph is of my Lebanese Great-Great-Grandmother, who emigrated to Brazil around 1889, and me today in NYC.
The process I use to make the image is a physical process where I soak the emulsion in water, lift the emulsions, and rephotograph the combined image.
