The Shadow Self

2021, a 1/1 edition by Ryan Seslow, this new portrait is inspired by Carl Jung’s work on the “Shadow-Self” archetype. This image represents a collective shadow-self that derives from our attempts to adapt to the societal and cultural expectations of our systems. Lurking within, the shadow will always surface and bring a storm. Will that metaphoric storm play out on loop with-in or take form on the outside? According to Jung, it lives and grows simultaneously in both worlds, especially if it is repressed and dismissed..
