At the entranceway was a bronzed statue of the Institute’s mascot, the goat/spider—one of the first successful splices, done in Montreal at the turn of the century, goat crossed with spider to produce high-tensile spider silk filaments in the milk. The main application nowadays was bulletproof vests.
