The lifespan of a Sea Turtle used to be around 50 years... but times have changed. Currently, 30-55% of baby sea turtles are killed by plastic ingestion within DAYS after birth. As if their survival wasn't already hard enough....
In 2019, A study was done on Sea Turtles specimens from the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans to gauge the level to which plastic was affecting their populations. 102 specimens had their stomachs and digestive systems examined. All 102 turtles had plastics present in their digestive system. 100% of specimens tested across the world had plastics in their stomachs.
The lifespan of all species of Sea Turtle is estimated to be nearly half of what it was just two decades ago.
Meanwhile, the lifespan of the plastics in the ocean..... is on average, several hundred years.
