Captured today at Keiki Beach 9/30/26 on Oʻahu, this image puts the viewer inside the architecture of a breaking wave. The water folds overhead like a ceiling of liquid glass, while the small opening through the barrel reveals a glimpse of shoreline and palms beyond.
What makes the frame especially striking is the turquoise clarity and reflection. The surface above becomes almost abstract deep emerald greens, electric blues, white highlights, and distorted reflections flowing together like paint. Along the face of the wave, a bright ribbon of reflected light traces the curve and emphasizes the motion of the water.
Being this close changes the scale completely. It isn't simply a photograph of a wave; the perspective makes it feel like you're inside the wave, watching the Pacific reshape itself for a fraction of a second before collapsing.
For your Art Is Therapy / Therapy Is Art collection, I’d describe it as a moment of total presence: when everything outside that little opening disappears and there is only water, light, movement, and the instinct to create.
