Pussy Power
"Vanity" it’s a term often applied to women who strive to be seen and to be heard. "Ego" it’s a term often used as a weapon against women in the STEM fields when they arrive with dignity, speak with strength and make their presence known.
It is through mutual bonding that we discover these strategies of subversion within the patriarchal maze. It is through out shared belief in our own value that we actualize our Pussy Power.
“Pussy Power” is a self portrait of the artist and technologist Katie McIntyre. In many ways she is referencing her previous works for her album artwork for Cardi B’s “Wild Side” and Nicki Minaj’s “Queen”.She builds upon the notion that the feminine form exists not to be concealed but to be expressed in a multitude of dimensions. The breasts are adorned with diamonds and intricate designs, although the material is sharp and not inviting to the touch. It is designed only for the woman to wear, and does not exist for the pleasure of the male. The vaginal and uterus symbols throughout are a signature of McIntyre’s that demand we rethink our views on what makes a shape truly sexual and outside commercial realms. The details ask; Do we sexualize womanhood so much so that we have imprisoned her? Is there a world in which we can actualize our pussy power and leave our fears of her shapes behind?
The sculpted glasses and body designs are hand crafted by McIntyre in a lengthy, complicated multi 3-d software process. On the lips she leaves a secret message, inviting the viewer in and playing on the phrase of “read my lips”.
In decadent diamond letters it reads “Pussy Power”.
Every inch of this expression is grounded in a bold shamelessness of the female form, the woman looks on to you in a one way mirror, for she sees things you do not. However, she does see the viewer and there is a coy mockery to her subtle dialogue. She expresses her power with so much confidence and skill that she weaves an inside joke into her web, for only the most astute to discover.
She asks the viewer to see themselves in her, to express their own feminine power through her.
