This artwork is inspired by the contrappasso inflicted on Count Ugolino, a historically existent character who also appears in Canto XXXII of "The Divine Comedy," the renowned poem composed by Dante Alighieri. The title of this artwork is taken from a verse in the above-mentioned Canto, the English translation of which is as follows: "His mouth uplifted from his grim repast". Oil painting made in the 1980s and partially reworked in 2022.
