The Edge
The most intimidating and challenging trip I have ever done. This forecast was studied for two weeks while the storm chopped and changed and the call to pull the trigger was left right up until two days before (though I have already prepped the week leading up) Huzzas is extremely remote, a 12 hour drive with the last two along the coastline edge, arriving to discover the jetski trailer was broken which put some uncertainty into the trip home but having made it all the way as close as possible, decided to focus on the swell and getting in and out on the jetski safely.
This is the most spectacular moment from the morning session. A place to start for a small series of images coming as we worked through different lighting and wind conditions while the swell and wind raged. Down here, it’s wild. It does what it wants weather wise, it all looks desolate and raw but It’s so insanely beautiful, We found a crazy new wave sitting out the ocean all by itself. At times there was a strange sense of things not feeling so remote, but then once out on the ocean you quickly realise how far from help you are and with the knowledge this is not a place you want to be swimming around in. This one had an extra level of stress of responsibility to get there, in and out and home safely. I hope you enjoy these. For perspective and scale i’m standing upright driving the jetski while photographing. This thing was massive.
