I have seen this wave break twice, two waves total and it felt like it was completely by chance. We had been photographing "Huzzas" and needed to make our 45 minute jet ski ride back to safety when we happened across a small reef that seemed to have a little stand still wave at the edge of a section as swells rolled through. As we were sitting watching this section, we came over a lump of water to see a very large wave already breaking further out heading straight at us... we were sitting completely on the reef in its path. Unable to document the first bigger wave as we evacuated ourselves from our position, this is the next wave that followed. This was the only wave we saw and one that is etched into my mind. We continued on our journey back to land with only this image and wonder of the unknown surrounding this wave Our search of the ocean can be, so unexpected when you least expect, and you only get to witness that intense, beautiful moment while the energy is there in front of you without any guarantee of seeing anything like it again.
