Mistakes Were Made in a Wallet I Control

“Click on ‘The Dot’ to flip the image.” That was the original description of this piece, which was called ‘The Moon’ and was the second token of my independent Manifold contract – meant to give me a place to mint playful artworks with and which I started quite a while ago. Now, I changed the metadata of this NFT (my first ever HTML artwork) – thanks to the help of Andrew Mitchell (@uncut_hems) – to give it a new life on-chain. Because, a mistake happened after I sold the work privately to Thor (@SamuraiSpirit88): I accidentally sent the NFT to the wrong ENS. We tracked down the profile that owns it now, but they didn’t want to cooperate. After a few days of thinking, I decided it was right to then change the metadata to make it another artwork. I felt this was the honest thing to do. But because of this mistake, my first HTML artwork now basically “died” in a way. ‘The Moon’ isn’t like it used to be anymore. It will be minted again on-chain instead of HTML, but at least it will go to the rightful owner. I lost sleep over it these past days, felt very ashamed, and really questioned myself. I take my career and reputation seriously, and it hurt to have made what felt like such a “dumb” mistake. But mistakes happen. We’re all human, all flawed. And out of that mistake, this new fully orange work was born. I don’t know who will hold it in the future – maybe a bot, maybe a collector – but I’m glad I found a way to keep the concept of ‘The Moon’ alive and in the right hands. I want to thank everyone who helped me through the process somehow – Thor, Dino, Joe, An, Daniel, DFarmer, and many others who were there. P.S. More on the work and the sale in my next Newsletter.
