An Evening with Anna Condo

"I often rework the visuals so they work for me, whether collaging or combining pieces or repainting them. So no, they're pretty time-consuming, but what I love is that my passion for film in general has always been when all the elements come together, which is movement, music, dialogue, so this is kind of like my playground." Anna

"And before I even thought of minting them, I was just making them. And then when I realized, like, you know what? Now, I feel like this is a film for me. This is a film with a beginning, a middle, and an end, with a cast, with locations, with all of that. And that’s when I minted it."

"I’m obsessed with color. And also I’m obsessed with art in general, and so and I love classical art as much as I love contemporary art. You know, contemporary spirit of art, I think it has to be super alive and now and not get tired. You know, and so it’s always a joy to bring the old and the new together. I feel like that collection clearly does that"

"I would say, like, definitely one of my mega inspiration, you know, outside of, say, you know, the painters and out there, is totally classic Hollywood cinema, yeah, it’s like, I could see that the heydays of Hollywood, the colors and these are big and the work that went in, and yeah, the esthetic, that esthetic, really speaks to me. And then all the way to 70s cinema, which I’m pretty obsessed about as well, which is also very color driven and kind of, like twisted and a little bit, you know, edgy like that."

"I find that, for me, the secret to maintaining that fragile element, you know, that kind of like imperfection that makes it, in my view, more perfect. The easiest way to achieve it is by mixing the different programs and reworking in layers by by switching back and forth to create, still that kind of thing that like has enough mystery to to keep me interested, you know, so I find that that’s one of the best way to do it is to not give into one program, yeah, make some and stick to it from the beginning of your piece till the end of it. I mean, I’m sure there’s instances where, yeah, that’s fine. I’m not saying it’s a mega No, no, I’ve done it too. But in general, to really achieve some kind of, like, more emotional, subtle stuff? I need to mix and match them."
