Commuters - The 10th E State
In Harman's latest painting from 'The 10th E State' series, titled 'Commuters', we are confronted with a space that challenges our conceptions of continuity and structure. The subway carriage, a common space of transition, is reimagined as a zone of ambiguity, where boundaries between the organic and digital blur. A partly glitched man, masked by non-reflective sunglasses, becomes a figure of contestation, an embodiment of the tensions inherent in a society constantly oscillating between the real and the virtual. His very existence raises questions about visibility, surveillance, and the conditions under which we recognize or obscure identity. The metal's spectral sheen, capturing ethereal commuters, pushes one to question: Do these ghostly figures represent a relinquished past, a possible future, or a present that we are yet to fully grasp? This union of AI and digital painting, as seen in 'Commuters', prompts a profound interrogation of our position within networks of power, knowledge, and representation, urging us to reflect upon the multiplicities of existence in an increasingly digitized epoch."
