Fear and Loathing I

Fear and Loathing is a digital painting (triptych, 3/3) that is inspired by The Field of the Cloth of Gold, 1520. The Field of the Cloth and Gold was a historic event between King Henry VII of England and King Francis I of France. The purpose of the event was to strengthen the bond between the two kingdoms and to display their wealth and power to the rest of Europe. The event lasted two weeks and was filled with grand feasts, jousting tournaments... despite the grandeur of the event, it ultimately failed to achieve its political objectives, as both kingdoms continued to engage in conflicts and rivalries in the following years. The event had a significant impact on the arts and culture of the period - inspiring numerous works of literature, poetry, and art, and it helped to promote the idea of chivalry and courtly love that would become important in Renaissance culture. This piece is a reminder of the historical event and a marker of where we are now in art history - what is art?
