To be able to experience a volcanic eruption's birth is something beyond description or words. I can only do my best in pouring that emotion that I felt in that rare moment into this image.
Yesterday, August 3rd, 2022, at around 1pm, word got out that a 500 meter crack in the earth tore open in the Reykjanes Peninsula, spewing out an ocean of magma. After a week of thousands of earthquakes, the magma had finally reached the surface. I packed up my camera gear and sped for the peninsula. After an 8km trek through the mountains and crossing the dried lava field of last year's now dormant volcano, I made it to this scene. I think what really hits home for me, is that if you look in the distance, you can see the city of Reykjavik. My only home, so vulnerable to mother nature and within an arms reach of her ferocity.
Because of this, the only feelings that I could muster were of pure joy and gratefulness.
This is the birth, Day 1 of the new eruption and with it, the very first NFT of this volcano to exist on the blockchain.
