Holding On

In 2019, I did a nude photoshoot with my friend and photographer Daniel N. Johnson. I was one year out of an emotionally abusive relationship that robbed me of my self-confidence and self-esteem. This shoot was an opportunity for me to take my power back, to feel ownership over my body and to collaborate with Daniel - whose work and vision I deeply admire, and with whom I feel safe and respected.  This is my favorite image from that shoot. Exposed, but hidden.  This image is a collaboration: it represents two artists working in tandem to execute a vision. It is about agency and consent. It's about taking the power back as the nude, female subject. It's about the subject and the photographer benefitting equally. It's about defining the line between art and exploitation.  I chose to mint this piece and set this specific list price as a response to the recent sale of a work by an established photographer who fixates his lens on female subjects while denying the existence of the male gaze. 50% of the proceeds will go to RAINN, a nationally recognized organization dedicated to preventing sexual violence, supporting survivors, and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice. Daniel and I will split the remainder. Tx hash for donation and splits will be shared via my twitter upon sale. For more about RAINN: https://www.rainn.org/
