What is going on here?
In the third circle of Kozachok's Inferno, we find the realm of Gluttony. After a life of over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, the souls who land in this circle of hell, are now symbolically and literally becoming a never ending supply of food for the smaller creatures. Scaphism is the only reality there is. The warm weather is always the same, there is no night. This realm is nothing but an endless lake, not very deep, around 2 feet deep / half a meter deep.
The boats are not floating, they are on the bottom of the lake, however each boat has cracks so water is already inside the boat. Each person is trapped and tied in unbreakable chains in their own boat, they are not feeling any hunger or thirst, but they are uncontrollably voiding their bowels every other day inside their boat. Left exposed in the sun and surrounded by their own feces and vomit in that same water, insects would descend. Stinging and biting insects like wasps and other mosquitoes would torture the victim, but worse, others would crawl inside the cracks made by rodents and other unprotected orifices of the subject and lay eggs, eating them alive from the inside out.
Succumbed to tortured madness, experiencing the agonizing, nightmare crawl of hundreds of insects on their skin, burrowing into their eyes and ears and nose, filling their mouths, while worms and parasites bred in the filth at the bottom of the boat and squirmed up into their bowels. Not too many, but enough rodents with a never ending appetite also live in some of these boats, slowly eating small parts of the inhabitants of all boats, 'travelling' from one boat to another.
As the massive infections caused by insects, rodents and the fecal matter smeared into the wounds would cause the body to slowly decompose, parts of their own body regenerate incredibly quick. It is not noticeable nor refreshing, as the final effect is that they are in a constant state of decomposing without dying nor healing completely.
In a life where over-indulgence was norm of the day, these people 'gathered' so much that now they have 'plenty' to give back, for an eternity.
"Kozachok's Inferno" is a personal version, a customized representation of the 9 circles of hell, influenced by Dante's Inferno, the first part of Dante's Divine Comedy, which is a long Italian narrative poem by Dante Alighieri, begun c. 1308 and completed in 1320, a year before his death in 1321.
It is not a direct reproduction of Dante's Inferno, I do not follow the accuracy of those layers or circles of hell, except the main theme (eg circle of Lust, of Gluttony, of Greed etc), but the reasons and punishments of each circle of hell will be different in my version.
