Liquidity III: Quiescent

I first visited this place in the mid-1990s, except that I wasn't physically there. Punch Bowl Falls was one of the first desktop backgrounds I ever had on my first computer, and I vowed that some day I'd visit it in person. It always seemed like such a peaceful, quiet, benevolent place. The day came almost twenty years later. It was as short day trip from Portland, so I went for a springtime hike to the idyllic falls. I brought my camera gear, expecting to get up close, shoot it from a bunch of angles, and come home with a full camera card... However, the water had other plans for me. Since it was only April, the spring run-off from the mountains and hills high above meant that the water was absolutely frigid! I set up my tripod a few feet off the shore, but I could only stand a few minutes up to my knees in the river before I had to scramble back to the rocks to warm up! The cold pain dug deep and gnawed at my bones...
