The night I started creating this painting, I was nostalgically looking back through the files and folders of my drawings, sketches and all the paintings that I have created over the years.
I’m sure you can relate. Whenever I paint, it almost feels like a timestamp. Looking at my old paintings takes me back to that exact moment. I go back to the exact music I was listening to, what the weather was like or how I was feeling at the time. It reminds me of my being and my roots.
I truly feel that it somehow takes me back to myself on that night.
It made me come to the realisation of how much this space has impacted me in so many way. From forming new deep connections, to meaningful revelations. The individual journeys I’ve embarked upon beside this community despite the highs and lows. I’ve seen cruelty, but I’ve also seen so much bravery, kindness, care, and courage. There may be division, but we also thrive on unity in the form of communities.
Based on all these experiences and all the memories that washed over me, I created this painting. It depicts what I learned through my experiences: always create a path towards being unapologetically your truest and wildest self. I believe in growing to become someone who cares, someone who gives out unconditional love to the world and embraces her surroundings. I want to protect and lead, I want to be an explorer who traverses the woods, crosses rivers, travels and gains beautiful experiences along the way.
After years when I look at this painting, it will be a timestamp of the journey I’ve taken to be able to reach wherever I am.
