"LA Gallerist" from Harman’s "Art Fair" series is a riotous jab at the self-indulgent antics that unfold at art fairs. Here's an LA gallery maven, marinated in too much Napa red, suddenly anointed as the arbiter of artistic merit at Art Basel Miami. He parades through the aisles, his Californian paintings—those vibrant, sun-drenched canvases—under arm, as he bellows scathing verdicts on the 'inferior' art of photorealism.
This art warrior, brandishing expletives as his chosen weaponry, meets his match in the form of security, who escort him out, turning him from gallery god to art fair outcast. The painting is a masterstroke of satire, capturing the absurd theater of the art market—a place where sometimes the spectacle of the scene outshines the art itself.
