When does the value of art change? When the work itself changes, or when the attention, visibility, praise, and market signals surrounding it do?
The same piece can be ignored at one moment and treated as more valuable the next once it becomes surrounded by bids, sales, and attention. The absurdity lies in the moment when the perception built around the artwork begins to matter more than the artwork itself.
Perhaps sometimes it is not the art that changes, but the way people choose to see it.
