"Worthlessness" captures the stark confrontation with mortality, a central theme of my 'Decayedness' series. This photograph portrays a solitary skull, accompanied by a withered flower and an antique pocket watch, elements that echo the relentless passage of time and the inevitable decline that follows all life.
This piece delves into the existential musings of value and the transient nature of existence. The skull, stripped of flesh, speaks to the ultimate fate that awaits us all, rendering worldly possessions and achievements insignificant in the face of death. The watch, once a symbol of human ingenuity and control over time, now lies powerless, its ticking silenced, a poignant reminder of our own limitations.
Drawing from my Kurdish heritage, "Worthlessness" resonates with the cultural narratives of loss and resilience—a people familiar with the shadows of oblivion, yet defiant in their presence. It challenges the viewer to consider what truly holds value when the curtains close and the superficial layers of life are peeled away.
In this composition, I aim to evoke a reflection on the emptiness of material pursuits and the richness of a life measured in moments rather than possessions. Through the visual language of still life, I invite the audience to ponder the worth of the intangible and the legacy we choose to leave behind in the swirl of time.
