Sastrugi

Formed by wind and eroding snow, sculpted into intricate shapes and patterns. The patterns form anvil shapes towards the wind and taper to the leeward side forming a marker used for centuries as a navigational aid. On a winter evening in western Canada I was flying my drone over a snowy field as the sun was dropping below the horizon. The light was a soft peachy pink and cast shadows that highlighted the ridges and valleys of the sastrugi and created this amazing scene.
