The Tarantula nebula, also known as NGC 2070, is a massive region of ionized gas located in the outer rim of the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy to our own Milky Way. Packed with intense stellar formation activity, this nebula is one of the most impressive sights visible from Southern Hemisphere skies.
Bright clouds of ionized hydrogen and oxygen glow in deep reds and blues amidst dark dust lanes that give this nebula its spectacular appearance.
Shot with my rooftop telescope, special narrowband filters were used which allow very specific wavelenghts of light emmited by the nebula to pass, blocking light pollution and enabling this kind of deep space photography from the highly polluted urban skies of Buenos Aires.
