The second piece is inspired not only by the British artist Frederic Leighton’s “An Athlete Wrestling with a Python” but also the story behind the sculpture. On the surface, it is a man wrestling a python but a closer look shows that the python represents something more sinister for the subject in the painting, and a most daunting creative challenge for me, an artist who creates art with the limited tools available to me on Microsoft Word.
In creating ‘An Athlete Wrestling with a Python’, Leighton went through a similar challenge as he was departing from his usual style to open the floodgate of a new movement that will be known as New Sculpture.
