Harman's digital painting project, "High Rise Sunrise," deftly intertwines AI with digital painting processes to bring a contemporary twist to the traditional sunrise scene. Rooted in the stark contrast of his housing scheme upbringing, the artwork vividly portrays the duel between the rising warmth of the sun and the cold concrete of dense urban structures. Adding a modern element, Harman replaces the expected silhouettes of crows and seagulls with the sleek forms of drones.
This series can be seen as a digital-age counterpart to Monet's "Haystacks," where the Impressionist master captured the transient qualities of light and atmosphere. Much like Monet’s exploration of light’s ephemeral nature across different times of the day and seasons, Harman captures the fleeting moments of sunrise within the context of a contemporary urban environment. His works oscillate between the abstract and the representational, blending thick impasto with intricate digital brushwork.
Harman's approach mirrors the complexity of modern city life, where technology and nature intersect. By leveraging AI, he introduces an element of unpredictability and innovation, pushing the boundaries of digital art. The juxtaposition of vibrant, warm hues of the sunrise with the stark, rigid lines of urban structures evokes a sense of both hope and desolation, reflecting the multifaceted nature of urban existence.
In these paintings, one can observe Harman’s mastery in combining the spontaneity and expressiveness of traditional painting techniques with the precision and capabilities of digital tools. The thick layers of paint, reminiscent of van Gogh's impassioned strokes, combined with the sleek, calculated presence of drones, create a dynamic tension. This tension is a visual metaphor for the coexistence and clash of natural beauty and technological advancement in our daily lives.
Through "High Rise Sunrise," Harman not only pays homage to the legacy of Impressionism but also redefines it for the digital age. His work challenges the viewer to reconsider the familiar sight of a sunrise, urging them to reflect on the new perspectives brought forth by technological integration into our urban landscapes. This series stands as a testament to Harman’s innovative spirit and his ability to transcend traditional artistic boundaries, offering a fresh and profound commentary on contemporary life.
