We live between two presences that never truly touch,
the one where we are, and the one where we'd rather already be.
No one taught us how to fully belong to one place.
Every generation has had its own way of being elsewhere.
Ours fits inside a rectangle we hold in our hands,
small enough to seem harmless.
We used to lose ourselves in a book, a thought, a window.
Now we lose ourselves in a place that doesn't even have a shape,
just a light that convinces us we're still here.
