Horowitz is considered by all critics to be one of the greatest piano virtuosos who ever lived. His technique was and remains inimitable, as the result of absolute control and an organic relationship with the instrument, not only for his ability to express an amazing combination of power, lightness and agility, but above all for the kaleidoscopic variety of timbre of which he was capable even in the most risky passages. Some technical refinements in the piano field such as repeated octaves, trills with the fourth and fifth finger and tremolos have found in Horowitz one of the highest expressions.
