An aerial capture of cracked salt crust in the Bahamas, where salt, shallow brine and sunlight form a fractured mosaic of red, blue and white. The red tones come from algal pigments visible where the brine is deeper, while the white areas are dry salt exposed to the sun. The blue is not open water, but salt crust just wet enough to reflect the sky, without enough brine for the algal pigment beneath to show through.
Across the surface, intensely bright points of light catch the sun, requiring the exposure to be pulled right back to hold the highlights. Within these glints, small flashes of colour appear through chromatic aberration and lens flare, turning the fractured salt into something almost celestial.
