He thought the world began and ended in the mirror of his mind—each triumph a proof of worth, each failure a personal indictment. Time taught him otherwise. That the self is a small island floating in an ocean of others, shaped as much by tides and storms as by its own stones. In learning to listen, to let pride loosen its grip, he found space for curiosity, for shame to heal, for love to widen the horizon.
