Mother Earth

"Mother Earth" is a reflection on the current environmental conditions that the planet is facing in the face of an ever-growing threat of large-scale ecological disasters. The work is represented by a woman in an almost religious environment who is fed by some fuel extracting machines with the intention of generating an ironic game between religion, ideology and science. This symbolic game is intended to highlight deeply rooted individuals, ideologies and spiritual traditions who place their faith in political demagogy and abstract divinities to protect them from the consequences of their environmental abandonment, instead of embracing fundamental changes to combat pollution. The economic factor plays a fundamental role in this phenomenon, in this piece of work it is revealed in a coin with the text "liberty" in god we trust. This coin tells us about the freedom to capitalize and produce without restrictions, that has led us to burn fossil fuels necessary for the production and transport of objects that become waste, the main contributors to pollution and climate change. Another striking phenomenon is the denial of the problem despite overwhelming scientific evidence supporting the role of human activities in exacerbating environmental problems. The importance of faith, beliefs and traditions as the foundations of each culture cannot be denied, however, we must be aware of the media and ideological manipulation managed by leaders who make crucial political and economic decisions that benefit a few and affect the health of the entire planet. These individuals keep us in ignorance and release us from responsibilities, creating a smokescreen in the face of the sad reality of the environmental situation of our mother earth.
