The Art of Influence > The Influence of Art

Made from bits of paintings by Hieronymus Bosch, this collage has been created using my long standing artistic practice. Using free association techniques to create a collage from a single source of material, each collage piece has been expressively cut, stretched, creased and sculpted in three dimensional space. Simple animation techniques then assist in unfolding the narrative of the influencer and the artist Best known for creating surreal depictions of heaven and hell, Hieronymus Bosch was a painter whose work spanned both sacred and secular art. His subjects included allegorical themes with profound religious meaning, as well as genre paintings that described the daily lives of ordinary people The title ‘The Art of Influence > The Influence of Art’ uses a modern vernacular to reflect upon the current atmosphere in cryptoart, where passionate artists on their creative journeys often find their progress obstructed by influential gatekeepers. The motif of this collage focuses on Bosch’s dualistic systems, his adoption of genre painting, and his ability to succinctly convey a narrative through allegorical imagery An artist sits high up in a young sapling tree, buffeted by the storms of the artistic climate. In one hand, they hold their creation, a bird, and excitedly wait to release it into the world. In their other hand they hold the potential influence of their creation, a cube with a heart, and passively reflect on its beauty. Adjacent to the artist, among the branches, sits the influencer, their hand outstretched, ready to seize any influence they can find. Armed with a slingshot, their intent is destructive.
