In my opinion, this is the best image I have ever shot swimming with a camera in my pursuit of documenting elite level barrel riding in waves of consequence. Taken swimming far out to sea in a wild ocean, with a 35 millimetre lens at one of the heaviest waves on the planet, I am required to be very close to my subject. To me in this moment that I was glued to the water housing, I was swimming towards this wave as it came to wards me, as we all met, it felt like I was hanging out of the lip, stopping my momentum and escaping out the back.. Moments before this I was questioning out loud what I was even doing out here, not getting close to a moment. Then this happened. I have held onto this for five years. It
