France’s best-selling car until 1955, the 4CV achieved another form of stardom in the comedian’s Le Vendeur de voitures (The Car Salesman) sketch. Ahead of that year’s Paris Motor Show, he dismantled one for Paris Match and introduced readers to the 70 accessories available to transform the little Renault into a luxury vehicle (well, almost!). It was in a real luxury car, his own Rolls-Royce, that he lost his life in 1973 at the age of 47.
